      Don Gutteridge was born in Sarnia and raised in the nearby village of Point Edward He taught High School English for seven years, later becoming a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the Western University, where he is now Professor Emeritus He is the author of twenty two novels including the twelve volume Marc Edwards mystery series Don is also an accomplished poet and has published twenty three books of poetry, one of which, Coppermine, was a finalist for the 1973 Governor General s Award In 1970 he won the UWO President s medal for the best periodical poem of that year To listen to interviews with the author, go to thereandthen.podbean Don currently lives in London, Ontario.

    1. I won this book through the First Reads program.When I saw this book listed as a giveaway and and saw it was a historical mystery that took place in Canada I knew I had to enter. I was very happy I won and wasn't disappointed!Ensign Marc Edwards is a soldier in the British Army during very tumultuous times in Canada.     2. This volume is apparently the first three books in the series. The first three books cover the span of roughly a year and take place in the area of Toronto just prior the Upper and Lower Canadian Rebellions. The central character is Marc, a soldier who finds himself tasked with solving mysteries.     3. I loved this trilogy! Don Gutteridge has brought Upper Canada in the early 1800's, to life. His writing style is swift and entertainment. Though the major undertone of all three books is politics, there is never a "dry" spot in the storytelling. Gutteridge has developed a variety of believable characters who are at times, amusing. There are many plot twists I didn't see coming: which is fantastic! Our hero, Marc Edwards grows over the three novels. His ideals, which were 100% black and white, wh [...]
