    1. This is a new author to me and 13 UNDER THE WIRE is the third book, following 13 HOLLYWOOD APES and 13 STOLEN GIRLS.Layla Remmington is a sheriff's detective in Los Angeles. And right now, LA is under attack. All cops are on duty to try to hold the peace amid the rioting and looting and burning. This all stems from an LAPD Anti-Gang Task Force shot up the wrong house. The police killed six innocent residents including a pregnant teenager. All the cops were white. All the victims were Hispanic.Wo [...]

    2. 13 Under the Wire, A Layla Remington Novel by Gil Reavill 13 Under the Wire, A Layla Remington Novel by Gil Reavill is a page turner. It has lots of twists & turns that kept me guessing. I gave it five stars.Layla works as a Detective for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. She's on peace-keeping duty during riots. The story has flashbacks from ten years prior."Whenever & wherever police or fire units showed, the rioters routed them with barrages of bricks, rocks & salvos of [...]

    3. There is rioting in the streets when LASD Layla Remington sees one of her fellow officers take off alone and even though it is against protocol she follows. Just as she finds the officer he is on the ground and a gun is pointed at him. What happens next will define the rest of the story. She shoots the criminal who has shot the fallen officer and then sees another man in the shadows with a gun. She shoots him because she thinks she sees a man from her past that had threatened to kill her. After [...]

    4. Random House Publishing Group - Alibi and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of 13 Under the Wire, in exchange for an honest review.13 Under the Wire is the next installment in the Layla Remington mystery series by author Gil Reavill. As a detective for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Layla finds herself on the front lines of a deadly riot. When she makes a costly mistake, will Layla have to struggle to keep her job? As Layla reflects on the past, will it all finally catc [...]

    5. 13 Under the Wire grabs you from the start. The story centers on Layla Remington, an LA detective caught up during riots who accidentally shoots an innocent man her sleep-deprived brain thinks is someone else. Author Gil Reavill uses the device to propel the story back 10 years to police cadet Layla, who agrees to clean out the beach house of a dead friend as a favor to his wealthy father. As Layla starts to look into what happened to Simon and why, she's drawn into a family of secrets and consp [...]

    6. This was certainly a book with a LOT of action. It went back and forth from present to past and was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out, there was no putting this one down. There were more bad guys than I have digits. And they were seriously some BAD guys! And then the ending when you find out what all the fighting is about - the dude who goes to London deserves to have everything that happened to everyone in the book happen to him. Grrr! What an a$$hat.I would certainly recomm [...]

    7. I'm not sure what to say about this book. I didn't like the way the main character, Layla, was depicted in this book. To me, she was made to appear too wishy washy. Some times she was weak and in the next chapter she would be strong. I liked the villains better. At least they were consistent in their wickedness. The book did keep me reading to find out what would happen next and the plot was well written. Although this book was not my favorite, I liked the other two in this series so will read t [...]

    8. After 36 hours on duty during a riot in Los Angeles sheriff’s detective Layla Remington makes a fatal mistake. As she is taken to the temporary staging area she comes face to face with a house she knows, and it brings back memories from 10 years previously and her involvement in the troubles of the Loushane family. This is the story as Layla tried to unravel the mystery.A NetGalley book

    9. Layla Is BackBy Bob Gelms Layla Remington is back in the superb third installment of Gil Reavill’s series about the most interesting member of the LA County Sheriff’s office. 13 Under The Wire is another home run for Mr. Reavill and I think maybe the best one of the three books so far. She seems to attract murders like iron filings to a magnet. Layla is 32 and about to be married when a riot breaks out in LA and she is called in to help in any way. She has been on duty for 36 hours, sees a c [...]

    10. A very good thriller spanning a decadeLos Angeles is in the grip of a monster riot. After thirty-six straight hours on duty, sheriff’s detective Layla Remington makes an error that could cost her badge. Shell-shocked, she retreats to the LASD’s temporary staging area, a once-grand mansion that Layla knows from what seems like a lifetime ago. Ten years earlier and Layla is twenty-two and a probationary cadet at the police academy. A childhood friend has died tragically in Tijuana and Layla fi [...]

    11. 13 Under the Wire, a Layla Remington Novel by Gil ReavillI'm going to be vague about plot and story since I don't want to spoil it. "13 Under the Wire", the author's third novel, presents us a flawed protagonist who is pulled into the middle of a war. Members of a prominent family, with whom Police Cadet Layla Remington is a friend, are dying and her challenge is to find out why. Layla Remington is a cadet at the Los Angeles Police Academy and is only twenty-two. Youth is not necessarily a flaw, [...]

    12. I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey very honest opinion OMG This book is amazing! From the moment I opened the book I was held captive. Having never read anything written before by the author Gil Reavill. I was unsure as to what I was gonna find. But as I had already stated I was held captive when reading the very first page till the very end. The author has an unique way in storytelling and bringing his characters to life right befo [...]

    13. An extremely interesting, well constructed novel but also extremely violent and gory making it hard for me to rate this book as a level of love or like star. Following a present day riot by Hispanics, LASD Det. Layla Remington finds herself under investigation for an officer involved shooting death.Flashing back 10 years, Layla's involvement with the wealthy Loushane family is revealed. The tragic deaths of her childhood friends are somehow linked to Tijuana & Rosarito Mexico. Layla finds he [...]

    14. Kindle Copy for ReviewDetective Layla Remington in the midst of a riot hits Los Angles mistakes an innocent man and guns him down. The entire force is tired and worn down, she make a case of mistaken identity tat can ruin er career as it resurfaces an incident while she was in the police cadet ten years ago.It involved her wealthy friend Simon Loushane who ends up dying in Tijuana and his family. Suddenly other family members also end up dead along the way. Layla finds herself in the middle of t [...]

    15. This is the third book in a series, of which I have not read the previous offerings. I asked NetGalley for an advance copy when I read that the author was compared to Michael Connelly and Nevada Barr, two of my favorite authors. There are two story lines. The first, in the present day, involves a riot and a police shooting of a civilian by the main character. The second story line’s premise is more than a tad unbelievable. It takes place ten years earlier and involves the main character as a p [...]

    16. 13 Under The Wire is told between present day and 10 years previously when Detective Layla Remington is still a 22 year old cadet in the police academy. Reading about Layla’s earlier days as a cadet, confirms that she has always had a rebellious streak and she tends to get herself into extremely dangerous situations. This book has some very gruesome and violent parts to it, as well as a form of voodooism and human lobotomy, so it is not for the faint hearted.I could not decide between a 3* or 4 [...]

    17. I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest and open review. This is the third book by Gil Reavill that I've read and enjoyed. Although they are a series it is possible to read them as stand-alone thrillers. This book vies between the past and the present as Layla tries to solve the mystery that surrounds the Loushane family. The action is non-stop and the bad guys are plentiful. I loved everything that was going o [...]

    18. I received a free advance digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my review. Here is that review:I LIKED this!! We are once again catching up with Layla Remington in a story that is both 10 years ago and in the current time. We find Layla as she is going through the LA Police Academy and find out why she does not work for LAPD, but rather the LA Sheriff's Department (just one letter different, right?). Layla reunites with a family with whom she was close during their teen years. [...]

    19. This is an unusual story set in both Mexico and the United States. Layla Remington is a real, well-rounded person with a strong desire to serve in law enforcement. The story of a serious series of tragedies during her early career is framed by the unfortunate shooting of a civilian during a major riot, and the court review that results from it. The strength of the book is the slow realization of the motive behind the heinous crimes committed against a rich family. The quality of writing creates [...]

    20. I shall start with a gore/violence warning. The story is mostly split between the US and Mexico. Layla Remington has made some horrible choices. These bad choices are catching up with her. My thoughts about Layla are mixed. The action is fast after a few chapters, and the plot - plenty gruesome in places. It comes together well enough in the end, but I wasn't really comfortable with a few scenes. My copy came from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.

    21. There's a lot going on here- and most of it hits topical issues- and sometimes it's not only all a bit much, it's entirely implausible. That said, Layla is a good character you will root for (I did) even as you might question some of her decisions. This is a fast paced entirely readable novel that you will like if you enjoy books with female police officers working to solve long buried secrets. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC.

    22. I received this arc from Netgalley. This book was a drag, that I'm glad to be done with. Too many things just don't add up. Layla probably would have been better off becoming a streetwalker rather than a police officer. Every time you turn around she's jumping in bed with someone. Disappointing read.

    23. This was a grabber! I started reading it and didn't put it down until it was finished. The characters and plot were complex (there is a great twist toward the end) and there was enough action to keep even the most jaded reader engrossed.

    24. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book in the Layla Remington series. I have read and enjoyed them all. This is another great detective story. We get to know Layla's background more and enjoy another great story. A recommended read.

    25. This is a new series for me ,I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.A real page turner multi layered page turner.
