    2. Intriguing, well-crafted collection of stories that really hits its stride by the time you arrive at the last, longest one (novella?). I wasn't sure how the collection of stories would hold together, but each builds something new into the mythology of this river kingdom, rich with detailed worldbuilding and compelling characters. The longest story reminded me of the adventure yarns of my childhood (though grown-up), particularly R L Stevenson, if I'm recalling them right. Most enjoyable.
