he also takes pleasure in bringing the hated aristocracy to their knees financially When he meets Penny he presents as very hard and serious, but he has a soft side that he has kept hidden for fear of vulnerability.I loved the romance between Penny and Gabe Talk about serious laugh out loud moments especially with Gabe s interaction with the animals and the guys interaction with each other true bro moments I was in stitches And the steam factor was off the charts They truly had odds to overcome but you as the reader are pulling for them hard.Tessa Dare has a way with words and her stories flow fast I read this in one sitting and my attention was glued to my IPAD Her use of dialogue makes the story come to life and develops the characters magnificently My only real complaint, if you can call it that, is I wish the Epilogue was longer and in depth I wanted to hear about some babies Readers, so far the historical romance writers are coming out fully loaded and ready with some awesome books improved here from the Governess Game The last book in the series was rushed and I was annoyed on how she completely brushed over the heroine s hobbies and career It was supposedly a big part of her life but wasn t even discussed Here I absolutely loved Penelope and her dedication to animals, and how aware of herself. Not gonna lie, Gabriel wasn t that special, however they had wonderful chemistry made me laugh out loud, plus plenty of hot, sweet, sexy, and tender moments There is also a couple of punches to this book which will be surprising, but it adds very good value to the story and just shows what a brilliant writer TD is This book had it all Good God, he said What have I unleashed Me She lifted his hand and kissed it I m in control of my life and my body, and you can t know what that means I m not sure I know what it means But I m all anticipation to find out Quick plot When Gabriel Duke is finishing his new house for sale to make profit to his already vast fortune, he is not prepared for the continuous challenges presented by his pretty neighbour and her brood of animals It becomes quite clear that these two will butt heads Repeatedly Nothing pleased her than looking after those around her Feeding them, warming them, protecting them, giving them a home She doled out affection from an endless supply The only problem was, she was running out of people to claim it Lady Penelope Campion had a softness for animals Gabe had no softness at all But there is no denying they have noticed each other There was nothing off putting about her whatsoever She was on putting, in every way Penny wasn t unused to men, but there was a difference between friendly acquaintance and a close range confrontation with sheer masculine physicality It felt like someone had taken a mallet to a gong of femininity hidden deep in her belly, and now the vibrations traveled through her bones, summoning an ancient, primal force Penny could think of only one name for it lust It s a good thing they have such a like for animals in common Certainly, I like animals Roasted animals Fried animals Minced and baked in a pie animals He gestured expansively I like all kinds of animals And it doesn t take long for Gabriel to expose his soft underbelly Listen to me, he said sternly My motives are never kind Neither are they generous or charitable or good They re money driven and entirely selfish You d do well to remember that And they get along swimmingly Your Ladyship, you are anything but calming You re not particularly cuddly yourself, she said Luckily, I have some experience soothing prickly beasts She clenched her hands into fists You are so maddening You have a way of provoking me, unlike anyone I ve ever known It s as though I become a different person when I m around you have to cease gazing at me Then you have to cease wooing me Wooing you He grimaced, as if the words were a pickled lemon on his tongue I don t woo You do too woo But all the money and influence in the world can t change my nature There s nothing wrong with your nature Your nature is fine For that sentence alone, she could have kissed him it s not We are who we are, I suppose We are who we are, See that pile of satisfied reader goo in the corner The one clutching her kindle to her chest and making moon eyes at the sky That, my friends, is this girl after downright binging on the absolute perfection that was this story.I don t know how it s possible for Tessa Dare to outdo herself with each book in this series, but my GOD does she I loved the first book and thought nothing can top it, then I felt the same about the second book And now reading the third, I m convinced that this author is a mythical unicorn that farts rainbows and creates pure swoony magic with her stories Yes, I realize most likely it s immense skill and talent, but just go with me here I m still on cloud nine after finishing this phenomenal romance. Now let s talk about this story and everything that it had.First, the third wallflower that gives the word eccentric a whole new meaning A spinster by choice and an animal lover by nature, Penelope has an innate ability to find the weak and wounded and nurse them back to health And over the years, she s developed quite the collection of animals Dear Mr Duke, As requested, here is an inventory of the animals in my care Bixby, a two legged terrier Marigold, a nanny goat of unimpeachable character, who is definitely not breeding Angus, a three year old Highland steer Regan, Goneril, and Cordelia laying hens Delilah, a parrot Hubert, an otter Freya, a hedgehog Thirteen kittens of varying colors and dispositions. But Penny s skill of attracting the wounded and lost doesn t just stop with animals Enter Gabriel Duke, or the Duke of Ruin as he s known to the lot Three things, however, never altered He always woke with the dawn He always woke hungry And he always woke up alone He had a set of rules when it came to sexual congress he didn t pay for it, he wouldn t beg for it, and he damned well wasn t going to wed for it. I say this every time I read a book from this series, but I swear Gabe was my favorite hero to date Broody, tortured, and hiding a heart of gold, this man absolutely stole mine There s something so vulnerable to his intensity Beyond the ruthless and cold demeanor there s a boyish charm to him that you can t help but gravitate towards. Then there s Tessa s signature brand of banter that will leave a goofy smile on your face and completely incapable to set the book down Every time I speak three words, you look as though you re going to swoon into my arms I do not, Penny objected, knowing very well that she probably did You sigh like a fool, blush like a beet Your eyes are the worst of it They turn into these these pools Glassy blue pools with man eating sharks beneath the surface I hope you re not planning a career in poetry For the good of us both, you have to cease gazing at me Penelope has made a deal with the devil when she agrees to allow the Duke of Ruin to help her meet the terms she s promised to her aunt in order to not be forced to go back to her brother and eventually be forced to marry Those terms Finding a loving home for her beloved animals while letting the Duke introduce her back to the ton as something than the quirky spinster The story is full of lovable secondary characters, including past favorites, and some of the most memorable and funny animals to grace the pages of a book I couldn t get enough of this Did I also mention the cameos I ll look I m not afraid I intend to be there for every moment of the miracle of my own child s birth He crouched and squinted And I ve changed my mind Chase retreated to the far corner of the stall and sat on a crate, his pallor having turned a pale, sickly green Fine, Ashbury said I ll do it If I could stomach my own injuries from that rocket blast, I can stomach this He went to look, then reeled a step backward Oh, God Something s coming out Of course something s coming out, Gabe said A baby goat No, Ash said grimly No If it s not a goat, then what is it It s a punishment for all my earthly sins, is what it is This book was everything I ve come to expect from the amazing Tessa Dare and so much It was romantic and heart warming It had a tortured and protective hero It had a quirky heroine with an understated inner strength that you can t help but connect to And it had the most swoony romance full of laughs that you never want to end In a word PERFECTION An absolute must read for any historical romance fans out there ARC courtesy of publisher in exchange for an honest reviewFind me on flag 50 enough of Tessa Dare s sassy and quirky heroines entangling themselves with prickly, roguish men Lady Penelope Campion or Penny, had me howling with laughter all throughout Pretty Girl She might be my favorite heroine from this series thus far I know I could have said so far but after reading a historical romance, one is compelled to employ words like thus , atop , drawers or column of arousal you know, the usual LOL From the previous books we knew Penny would be fun and eccentric, but I hadn t expected all the layers from her character She s such a lovable heroine, she s got the sass, the brain, the biggest heart and doesn t shy from her feelings even if it means poking at the beastly man next door She was a fool A naive, trusting, sheltered fool And Gabe wanted to corrupt her so damned badly, his bones ached This book has got to have the most entertaining and perfect meet cute ever Not even 5% in and I was already full on guffawing all the while worshipping at the altar that was the potent chemistry between Gabriel and Penny on their first encounter.Gabriel Duke knows better than reaching for what isn t for him, or so he s been taught over and over again during his upbringing One look at Lady Penelope Campion is enough to confirm she s not for the likes of him Self made man, ruthless business man, definetly not a gentleman He didn t earn his Duke of Ruin s title for nothing I flat out fell in lust love and everything that follows, with Gabriel Duke I felt seen and understood after reading that simply put but oh so effective first description of him by Penelope Lord but he was a big, beautiful beast of a man There was just so much of him Tall, broad, powerfully muscled And utterly bare, save for that thin bit of toweling and his thick, dark hair My, he had a great deal of hair Not only plastered in damp curls on his head but defining the hard line of his jaw And lightly furring his chest Yes, I m shallow like that But you know what He s proven himself to be than just that perfect body, a man with integrity and intense sense of care and loyalty, definitely a hero to swoon over.On the pretense to protect his business interests selling the house he s just renovated next door to Penny, he s agreed to save Penny s whole animal rescue menagerie Both she and Gabriel are on a mission to find them good homes so Penny s reputation as a lady can be restored in the eyes of her own brother. They re so different from each other, yet their differences made them so perfect together You are so maddedning You have a way of provoking me, unlike anyone I ve ever known It s as though I become a different person when I m around you, and I m not certain I like her He pulled her to him Ilike her The instant attraction between Penny and Gabe and the resulting tension without a doubt commanded my full attention Something that clearly stood out for me reading The Wallflower s Wager, was the focus on the positive sex scenes between Penny and Gabe Ravishing roguish man yes, but consent on the pages Wallflower of a woman, yes, but taking her pleasure and not shying away from exploring her desire The power exchange and respect interspersed during those scenes made the romance even special in this historical context If I were to lose my virtue, some would deem me worthless You could never be worthless Gabriel Duke You are priceless I don t believe I ve laughed this hard before reading a historical, Penny fighting tooth and nails to protect her animals well being, the whole crew from the previous books defending Penny from the big bad Duke of Ruin, Gabriel efforts to reason Penny Everything was brilliantly orchestrated to deliver the perfect heartfelt romance story.I ve been well and truly ruined by Gabriel Duke Penny decidedly got on the time it took me to read it I would say it s actually around the 200 page mark, and that to me made a massive difference in relation to the author bringing depth and development to the this book Penny is a likable heroine, of course but I have some real concerns about her character development I think this book has some very big structural problems that undermine it entirely Under developed HeroListen, can you just tell readers a few times that the hero is a villain without showing your work There s very little to work with here In the first 2 3 of the book, we only see Gabe when he arrives to do something with Penny The entire I need to make money off flipping this house plot really doesn t make any sense, sorry And even if it did he never interacts with another human outside of the people introduced by Penny or in the setting Are you really that dastardly of a villain without any people around you He doesn t even have a valet, a man of affairs, a banker, a lawyer, a henchman I have struggled in the past when a character has no people, but this is pretty extreme He doesn t even seem to have his own interests Somehow anything he had in process just comes to a grinding halt to deal with Penny, her menagerie, and selling this house I guess Some of Penny s pets have character development than Gabe, and most of the heavy lifting about his character is done in chapter 21 when he decides to deliver a baby goat Maybe I m just real churlish, but an entire chapter devoted to baby goat delivery at the 70% mark as the primary way of convincing your readers that he s really loves her and is a really good guy I wish you could see my face Chapter 24 I have a lot of feelings about this reveal First of all, I want to say that I think survivors deserve HEAs but I also think survivors deserve to see their stories told with dignity and respect, and not as a plot twist This big reveal really comes out of nowhere, and it felt to me like a craft mistake OF COURSE women who have been molested keep secrets, but they also presumably develop a set of very finely honed defenses for how to cope with their feelings when they come up For example, it could have been done when she thought about her brother and extended family, when she embarked upon a sexual relationship with Gabe, when she thought about her past and her life as a spinster ANY NUMBER OF PLACES Instead, given there was almost no forecasting of her past, this reveal came out of fucking NOWHERE It s just air dropped in, and it made ME feel as a reader feel like the message is women who are molested just turn into lovable old kooks. And you know what, that did not feel great From a craft perspective if an author is going to introduce a big, hidden secretThen do the work As a reader, I am very interested in the ways in which characters reveal their truths to others Here is a story that Penny has kept to herself for most of her life Now she is going to tell someone How exactly did she do that We get the story she tells herself about what happened, but we don t get the way in which she tells it to Gabe This is also true later in the book when she tells her friends and then her aunt and finally her brother It s all internal, and so for me as a reader, it didn t feel real I had to reread the scene several times what did she actually TELL him The only way we know it took a Long time is because she got thirsty Could this be an attempt on the author s part to show that she s trying to keep an emotional distance I guess, but it just felt like a scene that needed a lot work Even Gabe s response in this moment is entirely passive As she talked, a series of objects drifted in and out of her hands She didn t notice them being placed in her grasp, and she didn t recall setting them aside They were merely there, in easy reach, exactly when she needed themAt some point, the objects ceased moving into and out of her grasp, and she found herself clinging to one steady source of comfort Gabriel s hand Part of me doesn t mind this passivity, it is after all, Penny s story But this becomes a problem when later in the book, Gabe explodes into fucking action in the worst way How are we to believe that the man who apparently SAT AND LISTENED, DIDN T ASK A SINGLE QUESTION, DIDN T MAKE A SINGLE SOUND, DOESN T REVEAL A SINGLE FEELING then later jumps straight to dueling And I found myself feeling like this was honestly, an emotional cheat Why is this moment, which should be an emotionally weighty scene, the scene of the most important emotional connection between these two characters why is this scene less carefully developed then a scene where Gabe delivers a baby goat If this chapter and this plot point disappeared from the book, would it change who Penny is Would it change who they are I d say no Literally NOTHING about the first 23 chapters would have to change at all if chapter 24 were gone, and that is very damning, because that means it s not a real part of her character These two big reveals about their childhood traumas felt clumsy and ill conceived I hated that the molester appears again at the end, how convenient She s successfully avoided him for how fucking long, but there he is again The aunt suddenly appears to save the day I guess I d call it all deus ex machina, but honestly, is the last third of the book even thematically related to the first 2 3 It s not god in the machine It s a new machine A book with virtually no conflict for the first 2 3 then turns into a huge amount of buried conflict, which is just as easily swept away I was disappointed.UPDATE PART TWO I don t read historical romance because I care about history So, for example, I don t really care that Penny walks herself down the aisle and says she is her own person and wants to give herself away But I don t think that an author can have it both ways Penny embraces a very modern sensibility about her body and her identity, but it is paired with a very old fashioned type of belief about why when she should disclose her past to her family She thinks that she should only disclose the abuse if her brother happened to have girls, so thank god he had boys This did not sit well with me AT ALL and in a way I am very much struggling to describe I m including the actual language here, which I m hiding behind a spoiler tag bc I feel like it has the potential to be very triggering view spoiler On the day of her brother s wedding, Penny had vowed that if Bradford and Alice ever had a baby girl, she would break her silence No matter how painful But they d only had sons, thank heavens, and by now speaking the truth seemed pointless hide spoiler What does it mean for an author to completely flout social s of the time period for which she s writing to make her character an ardent feminist, AND SIMULTANEOUSLY ground that character in the worst kind of old fashioned thinking in another Can I also say that the I think about this line, the I would like to talk about ALICE Who is never a part of the conversation SHE NEVER EVEN APPEARS ON PAGE It s all about what would Bradford think about Penny, but as a reader, I keep thinking about Alice Does no one here ever wonder about her ARG The I think about all of this, the upsetting it is How do we carefully unpack something that seems so carelessly done flag 38 likesLike see review View all 19 thing I literally devoured it in just a few hours The Wallflower Wager is the third installment in Tessa Dare s Girl Meets Duke series, which follows the love stories of a peculiar group of female friends It was now time for Lady Penelope Campion, the loyal and passionate wallflower who cares deeply for her friends and her beloved animals She happens to have a new neighbor, the wealthy and ruthless Duke of Ruin Gabriel Duke , who wants to sell the house he renewed But that happens to be a problem when you have an enticing pretty wallflower next door who lives with a very singular group of animals she does not want to let go He would not put his hands on Lady Penelope Campion again.Absolutely not.Definitely not.Probably not.Damn Gah This book was so freaking good My heart simply melted with Penny and Gabe s love story I laughed, I swooned, I cried and I loved every single second of it Tessa Dare writes brilliant pieces of historical romance and I love them so much because they have a bit of everything unique characters, lots of banter and sweetness, sexual tension, feelings and a couple with burning chemistry It s impossible not to fall in love with Penny and Gabe because together they just click They are so different and they come from very different environments but their connection is so special and heartwarming This book just melted my heart with the sweet, hilarious and sexy moments between this wonderful couple The past, the future none of it mattered There was only this moment, this man This one heartbeat, and then the next, stringing together to make this life A life that belonged to her At last Therefore, my rating for The Wallflower Wager is 5 STARS because, as you can see, I literally devoured this beautiful love story I could not stop reading because Penny and Gabe just melted my heart with their connection and explosive chemistry I love Tessa Dare s historical romances and I cannot wait to read from hers, especially the fourth book in this series which sounds, of course, SO good Also, it was great to catch up with the rest of the group too since I adored the other two books too especially The Duchess Deal Guys, if you love this rid of all the animals at the house and end up in the society pages, she will be hauled off to the country to live out her spinsterhood There is no way she is going to find a home for a parrot who formally resided in a house of ill repute Good God That man is intolerable Yes, Penny said He is Alexandra sat up no small feat, in her condition and regarded her with concern Oh, Penny What The way you said that You sounded dreamy I am not dreamy, she fibbed Chase remarked that he was intolerable, and I agreed If you like, I ll add that he s ill mannered and beastly Precisely, Nicola said That s has any hope of selling it to someone looking to climb the ranks of society by living next door to an Earl s Daughter If he has to figure out how to place all the animals in her care and help her get out into society, then fine, it is a small price to pay He for the life of him can t understand how someone so beautiful and funny could possibly not be attached to a man with a brood of kids already Gabe is great at finding undervalued things, putting a shine to them, and selling them off for he s built a fortune on it and Penny is definitely undervalued There is no way in hell that your unmarried state is due to a lack of interest Please, enlighten me as to the reason That s simple You ve been hiding yourself, and you re good at it A master of camouflage She laughed Camouflage That s the only possible explanation You ve made a frock from the same silk covering the drawing room walls, trimmed it with cat hair and feathers Then when gentlemen visit, you stand still and blend in Penny is completely adorable I love all the animals in her care and how much trouble they seem to get Penny into Then there is the attraction she is feeling toward Gabe and the way he makes her feel, maybe she can save him too. Both Gabe and Penny have some tragedies in their past and as they get to know one another they find that in some ways they are alike than once believed This did get a little serious as Penny confronted the tragedy from her past, but there was enough humor to not make it a total mood killer and I did love how she saved herself in the end, she has learned much from the Duke of Ruin. The Wallflower Wager is the 3rd book in the Girl Meets Duke series, but like most historical romance can be read in any order I ve liked this the most out of all the books of this series, probably because of Penny and all the animals It is a little rushed at the end and there were a few questions still left a little open but they were for minor things and I m not sure anyone else would notice Narration Mary Jane Wells has performed all of the books in the Girl Meets Duke series She does a fantastic job of capturing Tessa Dare s humor and bringing characters to life I even think I this author Her books are always witty and filled with quirky characters that you can t help but love However, they are also thoroughly modern books dressed in period clothes and that really bothers 78% mark I won t tell which trigger it is but if you are sensitive to certain triggers, at least you ll know that it does contain one Gabriel Gabe Duke, known by the ton as the Duke of Ruin, is a self made man in every way Immune to emotional entanglements, he is ruthless in business and single minded in the pursuit of what he wants He was born in the gutter with no idea who his father was and his mother was a gin addicted woman who sold him as basically a slave to a pub owner After the pub, he spent years in an abusive workhouse He s never had anyone who loved him and he s certainly never loved anyone himself.Gabriel s current focus is the profitable sale of a newly acquired property on Bloom Square in Mayfair He s been refurbishing it, adding modern conveniences such as running hot water and updating the interior Now, all he needs to do is rid the neighborhood of the menagerie living in the house next door Who knew the menagerie s owner could be such a delightful creature.Lady Penelope Penny Campion is everything light and beautiful from her soul, to her physical appearance, to her heart she is beautiful inside and out She always looks for, and finds, the best in everyone That gloriously enormous heart of hers extends to animals as well as people Her home is filled with the world s castoff animals a parrot who is really foul mouthed, a dog with useless hind legs, a goat, an otter, a hedgehog, laying chickens that don t lay, a Scottish coo, many, many, many kittens you name it and she takes it in Now, both her family and her neighbor are demanding that she get rid of them all How will they survive without her care There are so many delightfully entertaining scenes in the book something on every page that will keep you smiling if not laughing out loud The banter and dialogue are thoroughly modern but so very entertaining The scene with the three men acting as a midwife for a goat is one of the best I ve ever read.If you want a highly entertaining read and don t care about historical accuracy, this book is for you unless the trigger will bother you As I ve written this review, I ve pondered the rating and have decided that I ll rate it at 3.5 stars content to never stay in one place too long, so when Penny and her veritable farm prevent him from making a profit, he vows to help her settle her animals in exchange for her lofty influence But as they spend time together, the Gabe finds himself caring about Penny s various pets and the woman herself, while Penny finds the freedom and love she has been longing for She looked not only desirable, And just as the gorgeous cover suggests, this novel turned out to be a lighter romance, a soft and blossoming pink that is warm and contagious but still sweeps down your neck in an all encompassing who values historical accuracy above all, then she s not the author for you As for me, Tessa Dare gets a free pass Always She s the only one who gets away with all the craziness in her books because her humour and characters just work really well for me Society papers have nicknamed Gabriel Duke as the Duke of Ruin because he excels at ruthlessly ruining aristocrats and taking all of their assets This path of ruin leads Gabriel to buy the house next door to Lady Penelope Campion, a spinster who lives with a variety of animals that she has saved over the years Gabriel begins living in his newly acquired house while it is getting renovated, but he somehow gets roped into helping Penny find loving homes for her animals And chaos ensues As it is with Tessa Dare s books, The Wallflower Wager had me laughing my ass off, sighing, and swooning Gabriel is a big, gruff, and beautiful beast of a man, with a head full of stubborn, unruly hair and whiskers that sprout in the space of an hour In his own words, he s the latest wild beast that Penny has acquired in her collection LOL Oh and he also gets grumpier when he s hungry This man Ugh He keeps saying how bad and ruthless he is, when he s really a softie underneath all of that gruffness Need me a man like that I love how Penny makes her silly way under his skin and discovers him for the softie that he really is This man is literally a kitten magnet and a baby goat cuddler Ughhhhhhh So Cute Excuse me while I swoon Gabriel is honestly everything he says he s the furthest thing from romantic, but then he says and thinks the most romantic stuff The thing is he isn t aware that he s actually being romantic LOL This Man His moment of clarity when he realizes that he s in love with Penny is the best thing ever LOL Gabriel and Penny are so wonderful together Penny is definitely quirkier than the usual Tessa Dare heroine Her naivete feels a little overboard at times, mostly because her friends baby her way too much Like Gabriel, I didn t find it funny how her friends treat her like fragile glass But I love how self aware Penny is she knows what she feels and she accepts those feelings She s gone through her fair share of pain, but she also recognizes her privilege, especially next to Gabriel, who grew up in poverty I love the set of characters that Tessa Dare has created in this series They all have such great chemistry together, especially the heroes LOL The bromance is one of my favourite things about this series The climax was also exceptionally and cleverly written It made the ending all that much sweeter and satisfactory I think my only complaint about this book is that the pacing felt a little off I also wanted some neighbourly shenanigans, but otherwise, this book pretty much hit all the right buttons for me What matters the most though is that I ultimately finished the book with a permanent grin on my face and with my heart full of feels P.S I have a trigger warning for this book rarely agree the chemistry between the kind hearted lady and the brutally honest Duke is unmistakableI honestly thought Penny would be a weak heroine, she was so sweet and kind and romantic that I prepared myself for a doormat Nope Lady Penny fell in LUST with Gabriel, she wasn t even afraid of it She was brave, kind, strong and thoughtful and I loved her She d been through something very traumatic as a child and it still affected her but in the end she was finally able to over come her fears.Gabriel was a good H, he d been with women before but it d been a while and Penny knocked him that I haven t adored So you can imagine how excited I was to get my mitts on The Wallflower Wager I picked it up then could not put it down until I had gotten to the last word. One of the reasons I love Dare s books so much is that they have such a wonderful balance of humour and romance, with the addition of enough real emotional depth that it has you connecting with the characters And with The Wallflower Wager, we also have the added bonus of some really adorable and unusual pets But, where this book really shines is the banter and the way Penny wiggles her quirky way into Gabriel s Penny and Gabe was one literally surrounded by animals goats, an otter, a parrot, kittens and a disabled dog It was enchanting and I now feel attached to them all. This was also a story of insecurities and hearts looking for a home Penny was a spinster hermit, she had retreated to her life with animals, content in her small circle of company The way Gabe and Penny met had me highlighting so many moments in the book and from there, these two were hilarious and full of chemistry Gabe was a self made man with a reputation for unscrupulous business dealings I loved the developing friendship between these two They had a real platonic connection and as this developed into , the friendship remained I adored them and I loved their shared ideals and values. Now I ve come to look at all the quotes I ve highlighted and they re all either super racy or spoilery, so I won t be sharing those but just know that the banter, dialogue and narrative is fun and delicious.Thank you Ms Dare for bringing this delightful story into my life I will re read this without a doubt.Thank you to Avon Publishing and Edelweiss for the early copy. This review can be found on A Take From Two Cities Blog this read from Tessa Dare, a writer whom I ve grown to love, and a book in the Girl Meets Duke series I absolutely loved the first two in this series and can t recommend it enough but this one, I want to tell everyone to be warned The pacing was off from the beginning when we meet our two main characters It was a good meet cute and we established the fact that the Duke of Ruin was a cold heartless bastard so imagine my surprise when he flipped really quickly and kissed her It also was never established what was between them I took it as a friends with benefits kind of deal but when again, declarations of love were done, I was taken aback I thought there was some issues with chemistry between the characters as well I enjoyed parts of the story a lot including the farm load of animals, feminist qualities, and nice quotes about being worthy in society.Although, I didn t get why Penny thought the way she did sometimes Like it s clearly not that reason why Gabriel decided to marry her but she has to bring feminism and worth into it and I m like um, calm down sis Cause this ain t it I was also confused about how Penny s brother was forcing her to come back to his house and that was supposed to add tension and be a problem for Penny but she seemed unfazed by it most of the time It also had to do with the fact that Penny s brother didn t even show up for majority of the book In my honest opinion, this book didn t feel like a Tessa Dare novel It felt like someone writing under her name and saying this is part of the series UGH flag 12 likesLike see review Mamacita wants a
