readers who have read any part of the Lucy Kincaid series, you will really enjoy this one For those who haven t, don t let the number of books in this series deter you This works easily as a stand baffled Three bodies have been found no DNA no clues no evidence nothing nada. The only commonality among these men, other than the way they were killed, is that they are all married, seemingly happy They all have responsible jobs, nothing in their backgrounds indicate anything criminal They don t share churches, grocery stores, laundries, etc. What begins as a seemingly straightforward investigation turns into something far darker and sinister than Lucy could have ever imagined. On the personal side, her stepson finds himself in harm s way when he tries to help a friend The friend s brother is head of a drug gang, just out of prison, and wants his younger brother to join him But there s also the initiation to get throughThe story premise is a really good one I got totally involved in the investigation, watching how Lucy takes every opportunity to question not only potential suspects, but her own instincts, as well I like how the characters interacted Lucy and the local police who has no use for the FBI and then there s Lucy s relative new family a husband and a teenage stepson All are finely drawn and credible.Prepare for lots of action in this page turning crime always, does a very great job in providing the back story for her characters especially the victims in this book She also provides examples of previously cases that Lucy has worked on and how those cases are currently similar to the serial killer case she is currently working on Allison also does a good job in providing and describing the setting of the story You can tell that this story is taking place in Texas, although it does tell you the location I felt that the character, Jerry Walker, who is the BCSO investigator on case, helps to establish that southern feel in the story This is done by the way that the character speaks and the way he acts To be honest, Jerry was my least favorite character from the very beginning I didn t like the way he was written or the way he treated Lucy, which is related to her being the FBI I did finally start to warm up to him near the end of the book I have to be honest in the fact that I almost stopped reading the book after a few chapters because I was struggling with connecting with Jerry Speaking of characters, I found it hard at times to keep track of all of the victims There were multiple victims, obviously since this is a serial killer case, but each victim had multiple living relatives that played a key part in the story The one thing that I found to help was that Allison continued to connect each victim, or at least attempt to, when a new victim was discovered The story was well written and was quite descriptive Allison makes it easy to picture each scene, the profile that is delivered by Lucy s brother Dylan, and the evidence that the crime lab produces like the video The one thing that I am still confused about though and truly feel could have been omitted from the story or put into a different book was the story line around Jesse, Michael, and Brian To provide a little backstory without giving away too much, Jesse is Lucy s step son and he tries to help out his friend This story was interesting, but I cold not figure out how it connected with the serial murder that Lucy was investigating with Jerry It felt disconnected from the rest of the story As previously mentioned, I feel that this could have been omitted and the main story would have read a little bit smoother I would have liked to read about Jesse and his friends though, just in a different book All in all, I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars The main story was well written, but it had quite a few pitfalls in my mind Check out my other reviews at 21stcenturyreviews flag 3 likesLike see review May 10, 2019 Jess rated it really liked need to find out where I can pick up the books I have missed and make sure to read them This book starts with Lucy at a murder sight checking the body where it lies She has been asked to assist the local detective, Jerry Walker, in determining who the serial murderer of three so far men might be There is a lot of detecting, interviewing, brain storming, discussion and police procedure that takes place with discussion of evidence, recreation of the murders and a bit of friction between Jerry and Lucy when she wants to call in the FBI for a profile of the murderer In addition to finding the murderer there is a second thread to this book that has to do with some orphan boys that Jesse, Lucy s stepson, has befriended There seems to be a back story about the boys and about Jesse that I would love to read Anyway, I usually read the end of books first but managed not to this time and have to say it took me a LONG time to figure out who the baddie was Even when I was beginning to tweak there was a bit of a breakdown between Sean and Jesse, with both of them frustrated and yelling out things This actually turned out to be a good thing, it cleared the air with them and allowed them to it was clear this was a later book in the series and that I was missing some characer history, it wasn t enough to distract from the story I liked the main character, Lucy And I really liked how she partnered with Jerry who was a tough man to work with, even though he had good reasons Lucy was no pushover, but she was also smart about which battles she chose to fight There were few, if any moments, where she said or did something to show she was tough even though she knew it would damage her relationship with her partner I liked that a lot I feel like many authors don t get that balance right when writing a female lead, to the point where you think the main character is stupid rather than strong And it s always something they do repeatedly, and never seem to learn from It drives me insane Sometimes it s a way to add drama conflict or conveniently set up something else in the story, but I think it s sloppy writing I m glad Brennan didn t go that route.I also thought the writing was strong, and the murders were particularly interesting But it was the conclusion that kept this from being 5 stars for me I just couldn t quite get behind it though the idea was intriguing Maybe it was the execution, but I thought the motive was a little too lacking Especially Lucy s conclusion that it wasn t money or divorce, but in fact the threat of counseling Ehhhhh Couldn t she have just divorced him I suppose it could ve been lack of page time spent on the actual killer I m not sure Let s just say, if I was on the jury, they d have had to work a lot harder to sell the motive to me Even being a sociopath doesn t really make that make any sense Or maybe it was because we didn t get to hear her side, or her confession I wanted there flag Like see review May 08, 2019 Michelle rated full of love and now guilt This story has Lucy called in to assist on a case with the sheriff s office Detective Jerry Walker does not like the FBI He holds them responsible for messing up a case he worked on ten years ago He and Lucy each try to work with the other and recognize the other s strengths but there is plenty of tension and disagreement between them The case involves a potential serial killer who is killing married men However, there seem to be no other intersections in their lives The case was difficult and did not follow normal serial killer patterns I enjoyed the case, the resolution and the positive relationship Jerry and Lucy were able to build While this is going on, Sean, who feels guilty over the death of his son, Jesse s mother, have some issues I found these to be very relatable I also struggle when Sean doubts himself The resolution was realistic in terms of the story line I can t wait for the next one flag Like see review May 03, 2019 Diane Hernandez rated interest was not held by the family drama portion of the book This issue was probably caused by my lack of reading any earlier entry in this now fifteen book series For series readers, Nothing to Hide probably will rate 4.5 stars For others, who like me are jumping in here, this book rates 3.5 stars It is definitely worth reading for the twisty mystery of the killer s identity and motive The writing style is fluid The characters are well written Overall, the book rates 4 stars. Thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review flag Like see review May 15, been hearing the buzz about Nothing to Hide when I was provided with this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion Wow, what a great book Nothing to Hide is about Lucy Kincaid investigating the murder of an executive chef To investigate the San Antonio County Police Department call in the FBI to assist However, Detective Jerry Walker does not like the idea of the FBI coming in and taking away from all of the work he has done by pushing him out of the way While all of this is happening Lucy s husband and brother are busy trying to take down a local gang It s interesting read,
