a bit, well, sappy compared with others I ve read Much of that, I think, is because early on, Sherlock is involved in an auto accident that results in substantial memory loss primarily of people Her skills seem to be intact, so Savich has no real qualms about involving her in whatever he s investigating but he also spends a ton of time trying to convince her and himself that she ll get her memory back, and that part, to me, is a bit overdone. After her car was hit, Sherlock s car spun out and, in turn, struck and wounded a man who they learn is a CIA agent being chased by a couple of presumably bad guys Now, the goal is to find him and keep him safe if in fact he s still alive While all this is going on, another FBI teammate, Griffin Hammersmith, is grabbing some RR in tiny Gaffer s Ridge, Virginia, when he hears distress cries from a damsel who s been kidnapped and stashed in a houxe he s passing by When he rescues her, she says she heard her captor whose family basically owns the town admit to murdering three teenage girls who have gone missing recently Needless to say, the man denies everything, putting Hammersmith and Dr Carson DeSilva, the woman he saved, at serious odds with said powerful family. The two plots overlap here and there, allowing interaction among Savich, Sherlock, Hammersmith and deSilva, the latter a much accomplished journalist Also on display are the special psychic talents of Sherlock and Hammersmith, who share those abilities with select other characters who use it in not so friendly ways. All of this makes readers wonder Who will win the war of the minds How far up the CIA food chain does responsibility for Sherlock s accident reach And will she ever remember the people she once loved, including Savich and their young son Sean All in all, it s another fun adventure that is, as always, well worth reading flag 17 likesLike see review View all 10 comments Jul 19, 2019 Carvanz rated it liked it Shelves arc, fbi police, male pov, married, not open a book While Dillon helps Sherlock to recover, as she has suffered a memory loss, Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith has just rescued a woman who says she escaped a brutal kidnapper who admitted to killing several other women When Griffin appeals to Dillon for help, he and Sherlock head to Virginia Dillon feels this is the only way for Sherlock to heal, and that is to be with him This proves invaluable, because Sherlock s instincts are spot on and Dillon feels that working might help her to heal. The case involves a missing CIA analyst What is is that what draws Griffin to the situation is that he hears screams for help He cannot explain it, but he is lead to the home of a female reporter and he manages to save her life This story, like one or two of the others in the series, lends to Dillan and Griffin experiencing a bit of psychic talent While this is a part of the story that I did not expect, as it is not a tenet of the series, it did not take away from solving the mysterious case. All the while, readers got to see the team working together flawlessly, as well as witnessing the growing love between Dillon and Sherlock While reading of her losing most of her memory was painful, it was inspiring to watch her begin to heal This fast moving story had me riveted from the arresting introduction to the shocking conclusion. Many thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for time I remember when book one THE COVE came out Wow, what a journey this has been for the author Basic premises Sherlock is involved in a pretty nasty car accident which wipes her memory As her car spins and she is out of control of the wheel, the vehicle hits a man who is running from two people He is a CIA analyst and the accident messes him up pretty good But he runs off and escapes his captors. In the meantime while Sherlock is in the hospital, Savich receives a call from Agent Hammersmith who had rescued a journalist Carson DeSilva from being held captive by a mad man Strangely enough the sheriff thinks her accusation is ridiculous and refuses to bring in the mad man who is strangely enough his nephew No charges are filed and instead the sheriff puts Hammersmith and DeSilva in jail and all the evidence of Carson s capture have disappeared Carson has a psychic gift as does Hammersmith and Savich Carson overhears the sheriff s nephew as he is thinking about the three missing girls in the area This psychic gift comes in prominently later in the book. There is a lot going on in this story Sherlock has amnesia and there is a great dynamic between her and Savich as she not only learns to trust him again but get back her memories in little flashes Savich and Sherlock assist Hammersmith and there is a great scene where the FBI area chief come in with a bunch of agents in tow all wearing battle gear and storming the sheriff s office in Gaffer s Ridge Classic The book is segmented in two over arching storylines The kidnappings from Gaffer s Ridge with Hammersmith and DeSilva and the story featuring the CIA analyst and Sherlock s car accident It definitely keeps you guessing and entertained until the end.Highly recommended.I received this as an ARC Advanced Reader read very well as a stand alone Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock, both FBI agents, return as our heroes in Labyrinth Almost at the start, we are caught by surprise, as Sherlock is in a terrible car accident, having be hit by another car, as well as someone bouncing off her windshield Savich runs to the hospital worrying about his wife s condition, and though she was lucky, she now has amnesia from her concussion She finds some familiar things, but she does not remember her husband, Dillon While many of the FBI agents close to Dillon and Sherlock stick around concerned about her, another mystery is happening in Virginia.Agent Griffin Hammersmith is on vacation with friends in Gaffer s Ridge, when he hears a woman screaming He manages to help her escape, and between himself and the rescued woman, Carson DeSilva, they manage to stop the kidnapper and call for help from the local police Unfortunately, the police turn things around and put both Griffin and Carson in jail for harming the local resident Griffin manages to call Dillion for help, and the FBI will come in full force to help Griffin, and try to solve the disappearance of three 16 year old missing girls. When Sherlock is released from the hospital, even if she cant remember a lot, she insists to work with Dillon to help Griffin, and eventually dig deep to find out the missing man who bounced off her car, and is a CIA Analyst as well as discover why the CIA is involved in some kind of behind the scenes mystery. With Sherlock at his side, they go first to Virginia to help Griffin, and discover a family that controls the town and police There is a slight element of psychic attacks, that someone is leashing out at first Sherlock, but Dillion will rescue her However, this is an important part of the Virginia story, which has some twists and surprises Griffin and Carson work together to get to the bottom of the missing girls.Dillon and Sherlock return back home to slowly piece together who is the villain at the CIA, and why What follows is a non stop exciting and intense adventure with two different cases I was great to see how despite her amnesia, Sherlock as an agent was masterful, something she did not forget She worked so well with Dillion and other members of the FBI Team It was tough for Dillion as she didn t know him, but slowly their love for each other will be instrumental in her recovery process Griffin and Carson had their lives on the brink, but the wild ending was so very well done This is a difficult review to write, as so much happens, especially with two different cases, and to tell too much would be spoilers.Catherine Coulter once again gives us a fabulous story, with so many different surprises and excitement all the way to the climax Labyrinth was fast paced, exciting, with marvelous heroes, who have to delve deep within the CIA resolve the crimes If you like suspense, mysteries, espionage, especially in the world of CIA FBI, I wholly suggest you read Labyrinth.BarbThe Reading Cafe flag Like see review Aug 14, 2019 Rose Blue rated it really liked it 4.5 stars as reviewed at Roses Are Blue Sherlock, FBI agent, has been in a serious car accident seems to have disappeared into thin air Through all the surveillance cameras and bystander s videos, it s determined that the man, Justice, works for the CIA His disappearance opens up a whole new investigation, and a plot of treachery that would shake up security as the world knows it Savich is thrown into the investigation, keeping Sherlock by his side, hoping that her lost memories soon return. As is often the case in one of the FBI thrillers, there are multiple cases happening simultaneously FBI agent Griffin is vacationing in Virginia, when he receives a message from a woman in danger Carson is a journalist in town to do an interview, when she is kidnapped by a man she heard talking about a young lady, one of three who has recently disappeared When Griffin rescues Carson, and calls the sheriff, he s shocked to find that he and Carson are the ones being thrown into jail The sheriff is the stereotype of the small town sheriff, overweight, blustering, and full of his own self importance The kidnapper also just happens to be his nephew The sheriff totally disregards Griffin s FBI credentials, but he s in for a rude awakening when the cavalry arrives FBI agents in full gear arrive with massive weapons in hand, and put the buffoon in his place. Both investigations continue, with Savich and Sherlock being involved in both cases The story is intriguing, with plenty of action and twists, not to mention some incredible paranormal activity by way of psychic powers The kidnapping case takes a decidedly creepy turn, while the missing CIA agent case is pure old fashioned greedBYRINTH is a fast paced, well written thriller which held my attention and kept me reading non stop I truly missed the connection that Savich and Sherlock normally exhibit as they work together, but her character carried through, even with amnesia, as she remained strong and determined Savich showed his own character by giving Sherlock all the space she needed, but still keeping her safe He s those with amnesia, it s a terrifying reality FBI Agent Sherlock started out on what she expected to be a normal drive when another automobile struck hers sending her Volvo careening out of control at an intersection, to make matters worse she strikes a man who slams into her windshield, his blood on the glass is one of the last things she perceives before the world falls into darkness Awakening in a hospital, suffering from a severe concussion, the sight of her husband does not provide the comfort it should because she doesn t know who he or she is This reader wondered who the reality was worse for Sherlock or Savitch who had lost the woman he loved But a little thing like amnesia will not stop these two from finding out what happened and who the man Sherlock unfortunately hit was not to mention helping a friend in trouble It was interesting how the amnesia was portrayed, one might lose their memories but what is inherent to a person remains and shines through periodically bringing color to the blank canvas they happen to be.There s something very wrong in the town of Gaffer s Ridge, Virginia FBI Agent Hammersmith, in the area on vacation visiting friends, rescues a kidnapped woman with an interesting tale to tell regarding her abductor but local law enforcement doesn t believe them or that Hammersmith is even FBI When you accuse the nephew of the local Sheriff and the son of the richest man in town of a crime you have a problem and being thrown in jail is the least of the problem It s good to have bad ass connections, the cavalry that arrives to save Hammersmith, a take no nonsense woman with a team in full riot gear and loaded submachine guns made for quite an entertaining scene Hammersmith now has a difficult job ahead of him and finding the truths hidden in this town won t be as simple as a jailbreak. This author never just provides one storyline to confound the reader, she s intertwined two intriguing cases that may or may not be connected The book is aptly titled, it has a devilishly labyrinthine plot that s shockingly twisted, filled with a depth of complexity that had this reader wondering how the author manages to keep track of it all and she does so superbly The reader is kept riveted with fast paced action and suspense, great characters with tangible emotions, the inclusion of moments of entertaining humor, and deceptive mysteries to try and unravel before they are resolved The unexpected paranormal aspect was intriguing, the villains were decidedly evil yet so human. An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via
